Each year, the Graduate School recognizes academic excellence with a variety of awards to students. Find out more about each of these awards and the nomination or application process on the pages linked below.

The Graduate School accepts nominations for the following awards:

Merriwether FellowshipFebruary 15th

  • The recipient must be enrolled as a doctoral student for the upcoming academic year.
  • There are no limitations on the field of study.
  • A recipient is expected to be devoted to graduate study full time and may hold an assistantship or another fellowship
  • Each department may nominate only one student for the Merriwether Fellowship

Outstanding Graduate Student AwardsFebruary 15th
  • Each department or school is invited to nominate one outstanding graduate student at the master’s/educational specialist level and another at the doctoral level
Distinguished Dissertation AwardsApril 15th
  • Each college/school is invited to select and nominate up to three students (in each award category as appropriate)
  • The academic disciplines of eligibility vary by even and odd years. Click on the awards page link for more details

Master’s Thesis AwardsJuly 30th
  • Each college/school is invited to select and nominate up to three students (in each award category as appropriate)

C.L. “Shot” Senn FellowshipSeptember 15th
  • Is enrolled in the Auburn University Graduate School
  • Has a minimum college GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Is a former Auburn University Division I athlete whose NCAA eligibility has ended

Williams Graduate AwardsSeptember 15th
  • Must be a degree-seeking student enrolled in the Auburn University Graduate School
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Preference is given to students with a financial need as verified by the Office of Financial Aid. However, if a student with financial need cannot be identified, then the financial need criterion may be waived
  • Preference will be given to military veterans who have served a minimum of four years on active duty and received an honorable discharge
