Shamsaei to give 50th anniversary Distinguished Graduate Faculty Lecture on Jan. 28
Nima Shamsaei, the Philpott-WestPoint Stevens Distinguished Professor of mechanical engineering and director of Auburn University’s National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence (NCAME), will give Auburn University’s 2024-25 Distinguished Graduate Faculty Lecture on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 3:00 p.m. in the Grand Halls of the Brown-Kopel Engineering Student Achievement Center at Auburn University.
The lecture honors a faculty member who has made significant contributions to graduate education at Auburn University. Shamsaei’s address is entitled “Additive Manufacturing Program at Auburn University.”
Shamsaei conducts cutting-edge additive manufacturing research with a special focus on fatigue and fracture mechanics and the mechanical behavior of materials. In partnership with NASA, NCAME was established to create a public-private partnership to conduct fundamental and applied additive manufacturing research and contribute to workforce development for emerging technologies.

After joining the Auburn University faculty in 2016, Shamsaei was named the director of NCAME in 2018. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Toledo, a M.S. from Sharif University of Technology, and a B.S. from Isfahan University of Technology.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Distinguished Graduate Faculty Lecture series, which is jointly sponsored by the Graduate School and the Auburn Alumni Association. Since beginning in the 1975-76 academic year, it has developed into a major university lecture series that fosters a better understanding of the scholarly contributions made by Auburn’s faculty. Nominations for the honor are solicited from the university’s faculty, and the recipient is selected by a committee of graduate faculty members. The lecturer receives a $2,000 award from the Auburn Alumni Association and is recognized at Auburn University’s annual Faculty Awards ceremony.
The lecture will conclude with a brief award presentation and reception with light refreshments. Students, faculty and members of the community are invited to RSVP and attend the lecture event. For more information about the Distinguished Graduate Faculty Lecture, visit aub.ie/DGFL.
